This declaration surfaced following the wave of gossip that erupted from the Golden Globes, when Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Keleigh Sperry were caught in what appeared to be an intriguing conversation. Allegedly interpreted by the Pop Culture Gal Twitter account, the discussion involved Kylie Jenner, who reportedly refused Gomez a photo with her friend, Timothee Chalamet. Gomez and Chalamet, who had co-starred in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York, have been friends since.

Despite lacking any concrete proof of this interaction, and the fact that both Gomez and Chalamet refuted the claims, online speculation persisted. The supposed incident provoked massive interest amongst Gomez’s fans, especially given that she and Jenner have a history of perceived disagreements. It escalated to such a point where Gomez, who probably intended to enjoy a casual girls’ night out, found her name in the most discussed topic of the year so far!
In the past, Gomez had decided to disengage from social media, only to return shortly after. Notably, in October 2023, she took a step back to avoid the “horror, hate, violence, and terror” that she felt was rampant in the world, following backlash for liking a controversial post about the Gaza war. She returned online in less than a day.

Gomez’s relationship with social media, as she told Vanity Fair last year, has certainly been a complex one. To reduce her exposure to online criticism, she now employs an assistant to handle her posts. She lauded the benefits of social media, including connecting with fans and sharing their stories, but admitted that these interactions were now filtered for her.
