In an engaging conversation with other female actors at The Hollywood Reporter’s roundtable, comedian Amy Schumer spoke out about the early sexualization Gomez faced as a young Disney star. Schumer, 41, expressed her views by saying, “You, Selena, were sexualized at a young age, but you’ve renounced that to forge your own individual style and path.” Highlighting the pressure for early maturation within an industry often fraught with sexual and gender-based pressures, Schumer acknowledged the challenges Gomez faced: “They put you through a system where you’re made to think that’s the proper way to behave.”

Gomez responded to Schumer’s recognition of her past troubles, revealing, “It was really unjust. The decision to pose nude for an album cover left me with deep regret.” This was a nod to her 2015 “Revival” album. The “Lose You to Love Me” singer elaborated on her effort to move past these feelings, recognizing they tied into broader, more systemic issues. “Despite being unhappy with that choice, I did strive for authenticity,” Gomez asserted. She further clarified her perspective on her image: “I’m not overly provocative by nature. There are times I feel sexy, but it isn’t necessarily an invitation for others—it’s personal.”

Gomez, renowned for her work on “Same Old Love,” also revealed her growing awareness of the importance of personal boundaries as she matures. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she underscored a newfound dedication to self-preservation: “I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries for myself.”
